A number of simple procedures can be conducted on the day of the visit. They include:
Computerised visual field testing (with the Humphrey Visual Field Analyser)
Corneal topography
Probing and syringing of tear ducts
Insertion of punctum plugs
Incision and drainage of chalazia (meibomian cyst)
Fluorescein angiography
Medical laser treatment
More lengthy procedures such as an excision of a lesion, are typically deferred to another visit at a designated time. It may be possible to pre-arrange such procedures to be done during the initial visit if a second visit is very difficult for the patient.
Day surgery procedures are obviously scheduled for another day, but pre-operative counselling is usually conducted on the day of the visit.
